Tell me about them.

I love the hood scoops.

They do look cool.

The 4th generation pre-facelift V8 could be supercharged.

The V8 won’t let you down.

Is the V6 unreliable? Or is the V8 a more proven motor?

It’s the 2UZ-FE, which is the evolution of the 1UZ in Matt Farah’s Million-Mile Lexus.

Ah, I see.

They don’t get too much more reliable than that.

Only gen that offers a V8, and from what I’m told they’re great.

The V8 has optional full time 4WD, while the V6 has optional part time 4WD. Both had a locking central differential.

I think the engine/drivetrain might outlast the interior components! Haha

Did the V6’s 4WD work well in snow?
![]() 05/15/2015 at 19:59 |

I hear the V8 is very reliable.

Honestly, it wouldn’t surprise me.

I believe they both worked well, however, the part time system can only be used on loose or slippery surfaces. The part time system should have a fuel economy advantage.

I like them enough, but wouldn’t own one. Don’t quote me on this, but the generation before that had head gasket issues that might have carried on to the current one.

I owned a 2004 and a 2008. Bullet proof.

Mechanically sound. However a pinnacle of Toyota cost cutting. Good for off-roading and being a beater, less for a family vehicle or carpool vehicle.

work with a guy who had a silver pre-facelift v6 for a number of years. Never had any problems with it. One kinda of quirky thing - the driver ergonomics are a bit weird. It seemed like it was set up for shorter drivers - almost big truck/bus like. Not necessarily a bad thing, just different.
